Study Permit

A Study Permit allows foreign nationals to study in Canada at a designated learning institution (DLI).  It authorizes you to remain in Canada for the duration of your approved study program and may permit limited on-campus or off-campus work. Residents of certain countries may qualify for faster processing through the Student Direct Stream.

Eligibility Requirements

- Letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution
- Proof of financial support for tuition, living expenses, and return travel
- Valid travel document
- No criminal or immigration-related convictions
- Good health, if a medical exam is required
- Proof that you will leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay
- Additional documents when accompanied by minor children

Study Permit Extension

International students must extend their study permit before it expires to continue studying in Canada. You must remain enrolled and actively pursuing your program at a designated learning institution. Extensions require proof of continued enrollment, academic standing, and sufficient financial support. Students who do not extend on time may lose status and must apply for restoration within the allowed period.
